Obituary of Kalman Boesze

Boesze, Kalman, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2018, at age 86, surrounded by family.  Beloved husband of Magdalena (nee Varosy): devoted Father to Kathleen Shenker (Bruce) and George (Lisa Marie); cherished grandfather of Alexandra and Kyra Battaglia, Matthew, Julia and Grace Boesze. He is also survived by nieces and nephews here and abroad. Kalman was the first in his family to attend university, obtaining a degree from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, as a Mathematics and Physics major.  He fled Hungary in 1956 during the Hungarian uprising and continued his studies in the United States as an NSF Fellow at Stanford University, and spent time at Wesleyan, Thiel College and Harvard. As an educator, Kalman, began his career in the United states as a mathematics teacher at Middlesex School in Concord Massachusetts’s. In 1962 he married Magdalena Boesze and settled in Buffalo, teaching at St. John Neumann HS, St. Mary’s in Lancaster and ECC -south.  Kalman coached soccer, played adulty hockey and fine-tuned his frustrations as an avid Bills and Sabres fan. His grandchildren fondly recall his chicken soup, crepes, Canasta games, vegetable garden and math challenge puzzles.  The family invites friends to call at the John E Roberts Funeral Home (Bailey and Grover Cleveland) on Wednesday June 6, 4-8PM, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM on Thursday, June 7th, at Assumption Church, 435 Amherst Street, Buffalo.
