Obituary of Alan Truelove
Dr. Alan John Truelove passed away January 21, 2019 at age 84 in Buffalo, New York. Born in London, England, he attended the City of London School, and then Jesus College at Cambridge University, both on scholarship and on their rowing teams. At Cambridge Alan completed his BA and MA degrees. After graduation, Alan married, taught briefly in England, and then moved his family to Montreal working there for a short time, and then to Syracuse, N.Y. where Alan worked for G.E. The family moved again to Pacific Palisades, California, where Alan earned a PHD in statistics at UCLA while working full time. The next move was to the Washington, D.C. area, where Alan taught computer science at the University of D.C. and did consulting work. After retiring from teaching Alan worked in various roles as a computer programming specialist. Alan is survived by three children, Peter (Cloe Vincent), Carol Kostrzewsky (Greg), and Graham (Cath) by his first wife Patricia, who predeceased him, and two children, Alison and Andrew by his second wife, Virginia, who also predeceased him. Alan is survived by several long time good friends, and his friend and companion, Dorine, who assisted him during his recent health struggles. He was a donor to Upstate New York Transplant Services. His interests were in movies, plays, novels, crossword puzzles, history, nature, swimming, politics, and his ten lovely grandchildren: Anna, William and Weston Kostrzewsky, Julia and Henry Truelove, Ian, James and Ava Truelove, and Olivia and Sophia Hennessy. May he rest in peace.
