Obituary of Richard A. Davis
On April 27, 2022, Richard Arthur Davis of Lewiston, NY passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness. He was 80 years old.
Born in Aitkin, MN in 1942 to Mable and Melvin Davis, Richard was the eldest of seven children: the late James (Martha) Davis, Bonnie (Jim) Heaney, Patricia Davis, Barbara (Larry) Hinkle, Joseph Davis and the late Michael Davis.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era.
He is survived by his wife Lily Davis, children; Todd Davis (and wife Shari) of Phoenix, AZ, Terri Davis Stafford of Denver, CO and Tracy Sauvageau (and husband Rick) and grandson, Max, of Conroe, TX. He was also a loving father to his stepchildren Ryan DeBouchel of Leesburg, VA, Kati DeBouchel Nairn of Beaver, PA and Brennan Sanders (deceased). Also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. They all shared his love of life and laughter.
Richard attended several Universities and Colleges and worked as an Engineer and General Manager in several companies in the automotive and industrial equipment industries. Most recently he was President and CEO of Imerys, SA in Niagara Falls, NY and retired in 2014. He was fluent in Mandarin, French and Spanish and worked in over 40 countries throughout his life. Most notably he spent 11 years in China where he met Lily. His management philosophy was simply to be fair with all employees and build a family environment through hard and interesting work.
Curiosity spurred him to learn everything he could. Soaking in knowledge was a talent. Photography, wine, hunting wild game, antiques, cigars, motorcycle sports, pig roasts, woodworking, DIY, history, cooking…there was such dimension to the flavors of his life.
Richard was an avid motorcyclist, snowmobiler, world traveler and lover of classic rock. He loved animals from his dogs, and cat, to his pet watermelon (who died from a loss of water) and Petey the Chicken. He belonged to the Niagara Falls Chapter of the Harley Owners Group.
He was strong, powerful, generous, and always at the center of a good story. He could find laughter in any situation and loved an audience of good friends. He will be missed by many who are better for knowing him.
“There are things I wish I hadn’t done…Things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I’m happy to have done. It’s all in a lifetime.”
